This year we celebrate the 41st Aberdour Festival, our much-loved 10-day community event, in what many would describe as the best village in Scotland! It is because of the amazing generosity of our community, in terms of time, energy, commitment, enthusiasm, as well as skills and expertise, that this village is able to put together such an amazing 10-day event.
The committee has worked hard again this year to bring together a packed programme of music, talks, sport, dance, literature and the visual arts, and we sincerely hope that you will find there is something for everyone!
After our celebrations last year of 40 years of the festival, this year the festival will look slightly different. This year we wish to bring the festival to the heart of the village, using our established venues and beautiful surrounds. There are many benefits to this, however we would like to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that the venues have maximum capacities and therefore there will be a finite number of tickets for each event. We strongly recommend that you buy your tickets early so to avoid disappointment.
The theme of this year’s festival is ‘100 years of Television,’ as 2025 marks one hundred years since the first television image was transmitted by Scottish inventor, John Logie Baird. ‘100 years of Television’ will be the theme of Family Games Night, as well as the parade and the Scarecrow Trail. The first television picture was a greyscale image featuring the head of a ventriloquist’s dummy nicknamed ‘Stooky Bill’. Now there’s an easy idea for a scarecrow perhaps?
Our children’s programme is packed with fun and games for everyone, and we are delighted that the Teddy Bear’s Picnic is back! The young people will once again be involved in the Crew. Every year they do a fantastic job, and we look forward to their able assistance again this year.
A big thankyou goes to the businesses and individuals who have sponsored events, donated funds or given up their valuable time to ensure that the festival is successful, to the shops, hotels, cafes and pubs for their support, and to our talented sports people, local artists, musicians and performers who make it all possible.
Please take time to look through the programme and visit our website. We thank you all once again for your support and encouragement and we look forward to seeing you all during the festival.
