When taking a photograph of yourself, make sure there's a good strength and direction of light ( decent contrast between light and dark, coming from the side).
An easy way to achieve this is to stand your subject next to a window, turned 65 - 90 degrees.
When taking a picture for a passport, they ask for no shadow on the face - in this case, we want the opposite. Shadow is what gives us the shapes we need for spraying our Banksy-style selfie.
Also, because we'll be cutting out, it would be great to be able to keep the subject away from the edges - that means no cutting off tops/bottoms of heads in the photo.
Taking your photo against a plain background is helpful but not essential.
An example is above:
One last thing - please send photos at the highest quality possible - straight from the camera - uncompressed is best.
Please submit photos to [email protected] well in advance of the workshop so I can have time to prepare them.
See you soon,
